I am thinking about making a rear seat delete for my Mini. I do not have any intentions of using the rear seats and would prefer the tripled storage space. You can buy kits online but they cost $200 which is way more than I want to spend. I would probably make a plywood system with metal mounts that would hopefully allow the panel to hinge to allow for storage in the seat holes. Fabricating the panel should be simple enough but I want it to look somewhat nice. That means matching it to the carpet that is already in the car. Where would I be able to purchase said carpet?

From a Mini junkyard?
/I got nothing.

It’s going to hard to find identical carpet but “fabric stores” do exist, largely for crafting purposes I believe. Check one out and see if you can get a match?
Or go for a complementary color. Might end up being better than a “slightly off” almost-match.

Check the MINI car owner forums for construction advice and material procurement advice. Surely other MINI car owners have deleted rear seats.

How do I bump a post properly? I tried sharing it and it didn’t show up. Just tried changing the posting date in edit and it went away until the scheduled time when the share finally appeared. I fear that in a few hours a million copies of this post are going to appear.

ok, so this is a mini, which is a bmw.... sometimes you can get the fabric right from the dealer...i know you can for bmw.

That’s I good idea. Even if they don’t have mini fabric I’m sure it matches some base model 3 series.

Haha, I just saw the headline for this post in the sidebar and literally thought, “Hey...I’ve been wondering about how to color match carpet as well. This might be interesting” Reason being, I need to make a RSD for my r53 as well haha. Odd coincidence? My plan is go to Joanne’s. When are you going to put yours together?

No clue yet. I am going to get a decent skid plate first so I can start rallycrossing it. Supposedly you get get the material from BMW dealerships so I might start there. Also I have no clue how I ended up in the sidebar.

I was just on another one of your posts so it wound up there . You're courageous to rally with a Mini

With a plate it should be fine (might do some scraping to the trim on the underside of the bumper but I don’t care too much about that). My big concern is the weak front strut towers but I will definitely be ordering reinforcement for those.

Definitely reinforce the towers. Which brace are you getting? The car should be able to take it; it’s just a pain in the ass to fix and the cost is absurd when or if it does break.

I was looking at a between the strut and the tower solution such as this Madness reinforcement plate . This will leave me with the option to possibly add a strut brace at some point which I cannot do with a top mount solution (I am also concerned about a top mounted solution being pushed up and the tower warping underneath it) and will distribute the forces across a larger area of the strut tower. I am open to other suggestions though as I am new to these cars.
